US Airborne First Lieutenant – Clifford Carwood Lipton
Clifford Carwood Lipton was with Easy Company, 2nd Battalion, 506th PIR, 101st Airborne.
On the battlefields of Europe, he was promoted to Company First Sergeant and ultimately was awarded a battlefield commission to Second Lieutenant. He said “it was the greatest honor ever awarded” to him. He eventually earned a promotion to First Lieutenant before leaving the Army.
Lipton was always keeping the men’s spirits high, pushing them to their full potential. This was recognized by the officers of Easy Company. He was also known as “The Man”.
US Airborne First Lieutenant – Lynn “Buck” Compton
Lynn Davis “Buck” Compton was a commissioned officer with Easy Company, 2nd Battalion, 506th PIR, in the 101st Airborne Division.
During the company’s action at Brécourt Manor on D-Day, Compton and others, under the leadership of Lieutenant Richard Winters, assaulted a German battery of four 105 mm howitzers firing on Utah Beach, disabling the guns and routing the enemy.
Compton took one of the gun emplacements by himself and was awarded the Silver Star for his actions during the assault.
US Airborne Staff Sergeant – Denver “Bull” Randleman
He was a member of Easy Company, 506th PIR, 101st Airborne and earned the nickname “Bull” due to his large stature.
On June 6, 1944, Randleman, dropped into France, eventually regrouping with Easy Company after missing his landing zone.
During Operation Market Garden, Randleman was separated from his unit and spent the following night hiding in a barn. He was found alive the next day by members of his unit.
According to former commanding officer, Major Richard Winters, Bull was one of the best soldiers he ever had.
